Our Educational Program |
Our congregation supports a very active program of Christian Education. During the school year over 150 adults, youth and children are enrolled. In the summer and during March break we also run a Vacation Bible School.
We hold Sunday School for the children every Sunday Morning at 9:45 a.m. During that hour there is also a class for adults class held in the Church Library. During the week* we offer an indepth Bible Study program called ‘Life Light’, confirmation classes, an excellent youth program and the ‘Christian Discipleship Class.’ As well during the year various Saturday Seminars and other classes are offered. Please contact the office for more information. (* school year)
We have many special Sundays during the year. Rally day, a day when we emphasize the importance of Christian Education, begins our school year early in September. On this day, the children take part in the worship service and, following the service, we enjoy a potluck dinner, followed by mini-golf. On "Friendship Sunday", usually later in the fall, we invite all the children to bring a friend to Sunday School. On "Let's Worship Together Sunday", often in March, we emphasize the importance of worshipping together as families. A light lunch is provided afterwards. At times during the year. Our Sunday School children take part in worship service by singing as a group. Every Christmas Eve the Sunday School presents a wonderful Christmas Eve Service, which is planned by the teachers.
To remind the children of their baptisms, each month we celebrate their baptismal birthdays with the lighting of baptismal candles. Regular attendance at Sunday School is encouraged. Upon enrollment, each child receive an Attendance Certificate. Each year, the children receives an attendance seal – gold, silver, or white, depending on the number of Sundays attended. Memory work is another important part of our program. Each week a memory work assignment consisting of Bible verses or parts of the Small Catechism, is given. We also encourage the children of the Junior side of the Sunday School to borrow books from the portable library in the basement of the church. On the Senior side, children are able to make use of the library in the Parish Hall.
Offering envelopes are provided for the convenience of parents and students. The offerings pay for Sunday School materials. Each year a special project is chosen for "Fifth Sunday Offerings". Also, a special offering during the season of Advent is designated to a special mission project. Another project we are involved in is collecting Campbell soup labels for the Lutheran School for Special Education Ministries.
The Christian Discipleship Class serves as the Adult Confirmation Class.
Beginning in the fall of 2000 we will be studying the Life of David.
The library is maintained by the Library Board consisting of a trustee and one member from each organization of the congregation. It receives funds through donations and through profits from two Christian book and gift sales held annually before Easter and Christmas. The library is self-serve and is open whenever the Parish Hall or Church is open.
